About the Area

Our huts are located just a short drive from Creede, Colorado, high in the San Juan Mountains within Mineral County. Elevation ranges from 10,500 to 11,000 feet. Alpine valleys encircled by rugged peaks make for variable terrain and weather conditions. Summer days are warm, averaging 70-75 degrees, with evenings dropping to 40. Occasional showers occur in the late afternoon. Fall features beautiful views as the landscape changes, with warm days (nearly as warm as summer, at times) and cool evenings. Winter temperatures can get down to -20, but an abundance of sunshine (275+ sunny days a year!) encourages adventures year-round. Spring is our shortest and most variable season. Some years it seems as though we jump straight from winter to summer!

 

Nearby Wolf Creek Ski Area boasts nearly 500 inches of snowfall every year. A typical storm will leave 1-2 feet of light powdery snow in the Mountain Hut area, making for perfect winter sports conditions!
